My Personal Experience with P90X: a Woman’s Perspective
After seeing and hearing about P90X for so long, I finally decide to give it a go. I wanted to really go full out and do it exactly like instructed in the program guide. I picked my start day and time and got ready to Bring It!
Initially, being someone that was used to group classes and gyms, I was not sure I could get motivated to stick with P90X for 90 days alone in my home. I decided it couldn’t hurt to try and that I’d go for as long as I could without getting bored. Well, was I mistaken. Bored is not a word I would use to describe anything related to this program. P90X was not only challenging but fun, exciting and entertaining every single day. In my 90 day journey, I missed only 2 or 3 workouts due but was so enthralled with the feeling I was getting post workout, that I made up those workouts even sometimes by doubling up.
In my first 30 days, despite my energy levels being high and my consistency helping to improve my overall moods and self esteem, I did not find I was seeing any physical changes. I did not see the numbers on the scale move and often got frustrated with myself. I reached out for support and got some great advice from a P90X graduate. He suggested I keep at it and rather than check my scale, that I should take my measurements and also see how my clothes were fitting. He mentioned that small incremental steps added up over time and that 30 days maybe was not sufficient for my body to show results. He urged me to stick to it a little longer and that he promised I’d see or feel results. Well, I listened. By day 42, I could do a lot more than when I started. I was completing full workouts, doing more push ups and moves I barely could do at the beginning. What completely surprised me was when I looked in the mirror while reaching over my head for something one morning before my workout. I saw an arm with biceps and definition that I could barely believe belonged to me. I literally had to do a double take. I ended up taking a picture of myself that morning and keeping it on my phone as a reminder each time I felt discouraged or wanted to give up.
P90X was incredible. I was worried I would bulk up, or not get lean, but I was wrong. It gave me a leaner and stronger body, plus so much more. It gave me the discipline and endurance I needed to stick to a healthier lifestyle. It gave me the confidence I needed to wear certain cute sleeveless shirts and dresses. I gained muscle, lost fat, and found a new me in the 90 days I decided to commit.
The best part of all was that when I finished my first 90 days, I was excited to restart another round and keep incorporating it into my daily fitness and nutrition goals. I feel like this at home program, at an affordable cost, offers so much more than I could have ever imagined and I want all my friends to try it!
